Day 5: July 16 (#3)

Today after school I went to the lake with my home stay and friends. It was a hot day because the school was shortened however the water was still cold. So it was surprising to me how many people were swimming in the water even though it was so cold. Another thing that surprised the people from Japan was how dirty the lake was. It was a mucky green and more than once we commented on how dirty the water was and how we would not want to swim in it. However when we did say that the German home stays told us this was normal and that there was nothing to be worried about.
After the lake my home stay and I went to her friend’s house and had a barbeque. It was very interesting to see the difference in the food, especially the potato salad. In Japan the potato salad that you get at the store is mostly mashed up with mayonnaise. However in Germany the potato is in slices and is served in water with some salt, pepper and oil. The barbeque was very fun and we got to learn new things about each other. We also taught each other new words that we wanted to know. Over all the day was a very nice relaxing day.
